Danish Court Upholds Sentences for Al-Ahwaziya Members
WANA (Dec 17) – The Danish Supreme Court has upheld the convictions of three key members of the Al-Ahwaziya group on charges related to terrorism, financing, and espionage activities against Iran, according to a statement from Iran’s Judiciary Media Center.
Three individuals were found guilty of criminal activities, including fundraising and supporting terrorist organizations in Iran such as Jaish al-Adl, and orchestrating terrorist operations within the country.
The court referenced the 2018 terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahvaz, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of numerous Iranian civilians, as one of the group’s most significant crimes.
In February 2022, a Danish court convicted the three members for financing and supporting terrorist activities in Iran. Following appeals, the Court of Appeals upheld and intensified the sentences on December 10, 2023.
After the appeals court ruling, the defendants’ lawyers sought a final review by the Supreme Court, citing claims of “legitimate resistance.” However, the Supreme Court rejected these arguments, affirming that the group’s actions constituted terrorism under Danish anti-terror laws.
The court stated, “This group directly targeted civilians and economic facilities, creating fear and instability in Iran. Therefore, their activities are punishable under Denmark’s anti-terrorism laws.”
Sentences Confirmed:
Yahya Kaabi: 8 years in prison and expulsion from Denmark.
Tamim Farag Bek (Yahya’s brother): 7 years in prison and expulsion from Denmark.
Yaqoub Mohammad (Yahya’s son-in-law and Danish citizen): 6 years in prison and revocation of Danish citizenship.
The convicted individuals operated from Ringsted, located 60 kilometers southwest of Copenhagen, where they coordinated the group’s terrorist, espionage, and sabotage activities against Iran.
The group primarily focused on terrorist operations, assassinations, and bombings in southwestern Iran, particularly in Khuzestan Province. Their ultimate objective was destabilizing the region and promoting its separation from Iran.

The group’s former leader, Habib Farajollah Chaab (known as Habib Asyoud), was the mastermind behind the 2018 Ahvaz parade attack. Chaab was apprehended in Turkey in November 2020 by Iranian security forces and subsequently extradited to Iran. Following a legal trial, he was executed for “corruption on earth” through leading Harakat al-Nidhal (Al-Ahwaziya) and orchestrating multiple terrorist attacks in Khuzestan.
